"There's something about your 30's... I started re-thinking what mattered... who I always told myself I was or wasn't... and I noticed so many others my age going through the same thing."
This exploration is the impetus behind kyrøs' (Lia's) self-produced debut EP - 5 songs that all revolve around different aspects of identity. Expected to release in early 2020, the project combines Lia's acclaimed soulful, expressive vocals with a unique blend of pop, electronic, and alternative R&B.
Now based in Philadelphia, kyrøs' music is a reflection of a childhood steeped in theatre, pop music, and piano, a long-time love for jazz singers such as Nina Simone and Billie Holiday, and added inspirations from artists such as Amy Winehouse, Kimbra, and SOHN. But ultimately, her fascination with new sounds and new musical sensations have led her to claim her new musical identity: kyrøs.
"I was doing the same things vocally and on the piano, finding other people to help bring my songs to life... I was beginning to feel limited artistically and wanted to explore what it was I truly wanted to say musically," says kyrøs. So she sold all her instruments, bought all new gear, and began exploring. "It was scary. But I began approaching music in a completely different way, coming to the table with no idea of what the song should sound like... allowing the exploration of different sounds to dictate the structure and elements of the song. It's been incredibly freeing to say the least..."
Lia has toured 50+ cities around the country and has licensed music to national and international networks such as MTV, PBS, and Netflix for use in their programming. She performs regularly in Philadelphia and live streams weekly on Twitch. Her debut album comes out in early 2020.
